Published quarterly a year, in February, May, August and November, the journal accepts manuscripts written in either English or Indonesian. The journal covers a wide range of topics, including instructional design, digital learning environments, educational media, technology in curriculum and pedagogy, e-assessment, inclusive technology, educational communication, and the application of emerging technologies in education.

The selection of the name "Sucilpa" is etymologically rooted in Sanskrit, comprising two principal elements: "Su" and "Cilpa." The term "Cilpa" in Sanskrit literally translates to "art" or "work of art," representing the entire domain of creative and aesthetic expression that is central to the journal’s focus. Meanwhile, "Su" functions as a positive prefix, meaning "good," "beautiful," or "well-adorned." When combined, "Sucilpa" can be literally interpreted as "beautiful art" or "art adorned with elegant forms." This meaning reflects the journal’s aspiration to highlight artistic works and cultural studies that are not only intellectually valuable but also possess high aesthetic and qualitative merit.

The Journal was published quarterly from 2025 (in March, June, September and December) with registered number of e-ISSN: XXXX-XXXX. It is a peer-review and open-access journal. The aim of JIRS is to be a platform for academicians to contribute and share their research works and writings regarding Islamic Studies, especially the topic of the contextualization of Islamic teachings in various fields of life. Particular attention is paid to islamic works dealing with history, geography, political science, economics, anthropology, sociology, law, literature, religion, philosophy, environmental, and local wisdom.
JIRS publishes articles and research papers in Indonesian or English to seeks to place Islam and the Islamic tradition as its central focus of academic inquiry and to encourage comprehensive consideration of its many facets; to promote the diffusion, exchange and discussion of research findings; and to encourage interaction among academics from various traditions of learning.
